LUBBOCK COUNTY - The Texas Transportation Committee approved $36 million for new construction on the Marsha Sharp Fwy.

An interchange between US 62/82 and Upland Ave. will be created, and the interchange between US 62/82 and Spur 327 will be rebuilt. There will also be an addition of frontage roads, which will connect the Marsha Sharp Fwy. to Wolfforth.

The Texas Department of Transportation plans to award bids in August. TxDOT spokeswoman Dianah Ascencio said construction could begin by the end of this year. She said TxDOT anticipates three years of construction for this phase.

The amount of growth in West Lubbock has allowed TxDOT to get funding to complete the construction more quickly.

Along Milwaukee Ave. at the Marsha Sharp Fwy. and Spur 327, work has stalled over the past few weeks due to rain and delays in obtaining materials. Paving should resume later this month, which will allow TXDOT to shift traffic and begin work on the Marsha Sharp Fwy. bridge over Milwaukee Ave., as well as pave the Spur 327 bridge over Milwaukee.
