WICHITA FALLS - The housing market remains relatively stable for May, as there were 144 homes sold in May 2013 compared with 140 in May this year.

“Considering we had a five-month downward trend from November through March ... we’ve seen that reverse and stabilize in April and now May,” said Michael Detrick, a Nortex Realty Realtor.

Information released by the Wichita Falls Association of Realtors shows more than 1,290 new listings were recorded from January through May 2013, compared with 1,240 this year.

Data shows there was a spike in the number of new listings on the market, with 260 in April compared to 292 in May. Detrick said April through July is the peak season for home sales, so there should not be too much read into the one-month jump.

Home sales in May netted $17.8 million for the 140 units sold. That is a drop from May 2013 when the 144 homes sold totaled $19 million.
