FORT HOOD - Officials have broken ground on Intrepid Spirit, an $11 million center that will provide care for wounded troops with complex medical conditions.
The 25,000-sf center is set to be completed in 2015. The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund will build the center, which will be funded through donations only. The group will then hand over operations to the military.
The Fort Hood Intrepid Spirit Center is the fifth of nine facilities planned across the country and will provide services to troops with complex medical conditions including traumatic brain injury, behavioral health issues, chronic pain and related ailments.
Research to help in diagnosing mental health issues in soldiers and veterans will also be tracked at the center at Fort Hood.
