HUMBLE – Shoppers will say goodbye to one Kroger and hello to a new one. Kroger will open a new 100,000-sf store at Hwy. 59 and FM 1960, replacing a nearby store in a leased space at 19611 Eastex Fwy.

The new store is approximately 45,000 sf larger, and will open in late August. A closing date for the old store, which opened in 1989, has yet to be announced, but a company spokesperson said it will take place around the time of the new store’s opening.

Supermarkets will dominate aggressive retail development in Houston over the next year, representing half of 2014’s retail growth with 28 new grocery stores planned, according to Houston-based Wulfe & Co.
