DENISON - Mexican food maker Ruiz Foods Inc. has announced a $20 million expansion to its manufacturing and distribution plant at 2410 Texoma Dr. that is expected to create between 150 to 175 jobs for the local economy.

"This $20 million investment allows us to complete the lines in our Denison plant,” said President Rachel Cullen. The additional line will increase the plants productivity by 20 percent.

In 2013, the company announced a $25 million 50,000-sf expansion to the facility including an additional production line. Work on that expansion is expected to be completed this summer, and Ruiz is currently hiring for the 150 positions that will be created.

Currently, Ruiz employs 700 people at its Denison plant. After both expansions are completed, the plant will have more than 1,000 employees.

Ruiz Foods, which produces the El Monterey and Tornados brands of frozen Mexican foods, came to Denison in 2005 when it moved into the 250,000-sf former Pillsbury plant.
