Building booms in south Odessa business park
ODESSA – The walls shot up in a span of less than two weeks at the corner of Pearl St. and JBS Pkwy., where Standard Sales is building a 158,000-sf distribution center that will sell some 4 million cases of beer per year to area retailers.
The more than $20 million Standard Sales building is but one of a slew of projects underway at this rapidly growing portion of southeastern Odessa.
Across JBS Parkway, nearly 65 fenced-in acres are being developed for Schlumberger Limited’s facilities and pumping units. Next door to Standard Sales, workers grade a lot that will be a new Forrest Tire truck center and office.
There are two lots where investors plan to bring two new hotels. Moving south, there are another three hotels in various states of development among still more projects, including a planned expansion of Saulsbury Industries onto land the company acquired in 2012.
Planners expect most of these businesses to begin if not finish construction this year.
Each developer purchased land (a few deals are in the final stages) with the Grow Odessa, which is more commonly known as Odessa Industrial Development Corporation.
