SILSBEE, HARDIN COUNTY - Groundwork has begun on the $22.6 million, 126,000-sf elementary school at 730 South 7th St. The new two-story elementary will be constructed on land next to the Laura Reeves Elementary campus.
With the new elementary construction, Read-Turrentine and John H. Kirby elementary schools will be demolished. Students currently attending the nearly 60-year-old campuses will be combined in the new Silsbee Elementary School with students currently attending Laura Reeves.
Actual building construction is expected to get underway in August 2014. Plans indicate for the elementary to be completed by August 2015.
