Walmart adds fourth Brownsville store; Los Fresnos’ first
BROWNSVILLE – A 180,000-sf Walmart Supercenter is coming to the heart of Brownsville at 2205 East Ruben Torres Blvd.
The City of Brownsville approved a building permit for the city’s fourth Walmart store, which is expected to cost $13.5 million.
Construction for the Walmart is slated to begin by summer, and is expected to be complete in April 2015. The store will hire approximately 300 people.
The store will feature the usual Supercenter components: groceries and deli, general merchandise and electronics, pharmacy, home and garden and tire and lube express.
Walmart now has 19 stores across the four counties of the Rio Grande Valley.
Meanwhile, Los Fresnos is getting its first Walmart: A 122,000-sf Supercenter is underway near the Los Fresnos Inn & Suites off West Ocean Boulevard. The Los Fresnos store has roughly the same construction schedule as the new Brownsville location.
