DALLAS - Lenders foreclosed on more than 6,700 Dallas-area homes in the year ending with May. Foreclosures in the Dallas-area fell by 30 percent in the 12-month period ending with May 2014, according to a new report by CoreLogic Inc.

Dallas maintains the 10th highest foreclosure volume among major cities within the report with 6,728 foreclosures in the year-long period.

The Atlanta-area had the most foreclosures with 18,994 sales for the year ending with May.

So far in 2014, the number of houses threatened with foreclosure in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is about a third less than this same time in 2013.

Not all homes posted for foreclosure each month sell. Many times the lender and borrower work out a new debt agreement or the foreclosure is postponed.
