SAN ANTONIO – Texas Workforce Commission officials have awarded a $382,796 skills development fund grant to Mission Solar Energy LLC and Alamo Colleges to train 270 workers for the solar industry.

Trainees will learn how to work as cell/module production operators, facilities maintenance technicians and production equipment maintenance technicians. Once they finish their training, they will earn an average hourly wage of $14.76.

As part of its long-term contract with CPS Energy, Mission Solar has agreed to invest $100 million locally and create at least 800 jobs in San Antonio.

Mission currently is building a solar-panel manufacturing facility at Brooks City-Base that will supply 400 of those new positions.
