Wichita Falls Airport lands Gourmet on the Fly
WICHITA FALLS – The City of Wichita Falls is coming in for a landing on construction at the Wichita Falls Regional Airport.
City Council approved a change order to build a full-service restaurant and bar, access to short-term parking and reconstruction of Taxiway C. After these changes, the city will essentially have a new airport, Aviation and Transportation Director John Burrus said.
City staff and Sally Harlow have been working together to plan a complete restaurant and bar that is accessible to the public without having to pay for parking or go through security checks.
With the Jenny-to-Jet museum, professional mural, restaurant and other draws to the facility, Burrus believes the airport could be a destination in itself.
Gourmet on the Fly restaurant will offer breakfast items, sandwiches, salads and a kids menu. The business will also offer beer and wine.
The new parking equipment will allow for both restaurant and museum to validate parking for patrons, so those visiting these areas can stay as long as they want.
Taxiway C will be constructed in three phases, beginning with the area between Runway 35 and the new commercial apron. Phase II will repair the portion between the commercial and general aviation aprons. The last phase will reconstruct the taxiway between general aviation and Taxiway D.
The total contract with Trinity-Hughes/Sundt for airport construction is estimated at $29.5 million.
