DALLAS – Construction on the new 2.1 million-sf Parkland Memorial Hospital is nearly complete. The $1.3 billion public hospital is 98 percent done and is finishing about two weeks ahead of time.

The new hospital will have 23 operating rooms, five more than the current facility.

If the 865-bed facility stays on schedule, it will open next May. Between now and then, equipment will be installed, all processes will be tested, and the staff will be trained to use the new building.

The hospital will move only its inpatients across Harry Hines Blvd. next spring. Other than the emergency department, all outpatient clinics and administrative offices will remain on the current hospital campus.

In addition, a medical-surgical outpatient clinic is expected to open on the new campus next year.

The hospital is expected to be complete by May 2015.
