WACO - A $16 million apartment complex will sprawl across several acres of Corporation Pkwy. not far from the Legends Crossing development at SH 6 and I-35.

The first phase of the upscale, 180-unit Spicewood Apartments will welcome occupants within ten months, and the entire complex should be built out within 16 months, said Andre Nicholas, a spokesman for N.E. Construction, which is erecting the three-story apartments.

A sign at the construction site says Spicewood is a HUD-related project, but that means only that the federal entity is backing the financing. The rental rates will be market-driven. “This is not a low-income housing project, and the rents are not subsidized,” Nicholas said.

Nicholas said the complex will be built of stucco and stone and will offer apartments of one-, two- and three-bedrooms with detached garages.

Amenities will include a workout facility, swimming pool and cottage where would-be residents can get information about leasing.
