LONGVIEW - Home construction in Longview in 2014 is lagging behind 2013’s pace even as home sales are rising across the area.

Data provided by the City of Longview shows the number of permits issued for construction of new homes in Longview during the first half of 2014 is down 14 percent from 2013.

Information from the Longview Area Association of Realtors, meanwhile, shows 1,066 homes were sold in the first half 2014, up eight from 1,058 sold during the same period in 2013.

The six-month average sale price this year was $162,192, down from $167,357 in 2013.

The slowdown in construction within the city — which one builder said may be because more home construction is moving outside the city limits — is tightening the supply of homes for sale.
