TEXARKANA, TEX. - Walmart is currently building two Neighborhood Market stores, which are about 38,000 sf each, in Texarkana.

One store, costing an estimated $1.7 million, will be located 3520 Richmond Rd. The other will be at 1918 College Dr. and will cost an estimated $1.5 million to build, according to state filings. Both stores are slated for completion in early 2015.

While Walmart is well-known for its giant Walmart Supercenters, the world’s largest retailer is now accelerating plans for smaller stores across the country.

The company plans to open up to 300 smaller retail stores, called Walmart Express and Neighborhood Markets in 2014, including five in the Texarkana region.

Walmart Express stores, which are typically about 12,000 sf, will also be built in Redwater, Dekalb, and Naples.
