MISSION - La Joya ISD has broken ground on a sports complex at 7400 W Expy. 83 which will include a $9.5 million natatorium, $2.5 million soccer fields and tennis courts and a $2 million planetarium.

The land for the complex, newly named Howling Trails Golf Course, was purchased for $5 million in March 2014.

Construction is expected to take 12 to 14 months, and the complex will eventually include seven summer water attractions.

The indoor natatorium will include a climate controlled water system and a ten-lane competition pool, according to School Board President Esperanza “Espie” Ochoa. The facility will also have a competition diving well and a spectator area with a capacity of 500.
