BROWNSVILLE - Preliminary plans for a 45,000-sf retail plaza, where a Holiday Inn stands on the expressway frontage road across I-69 E from Sunrise Commons is being developed.

According to city permitting director Evaristo Gamez, the retail plaza will be fronted by four restaurants: Applebee’s, Longhorn Steakhouse, Olive Garden and Palenque Grill. Construction of the project will take between six months and a year to complete, he said.

In the meantime, a demolition permit has been issued for the Holiday Inn and work is scheduled to begin August 1, 2015.
