College Station school district’s record enrollment increase
COLLEGE STATION – Last year, the College Station Independent School District (CSISD) enrollment was up just under 6 percent, and this year enrollment is up by 6.15 percent or 715 students.
In contrast, for the past decade the school district enrollment has grown at a rate of 3 to 3.5 percent per year.
“So, these are two big years of growth back to back, and we’ve not had that in the last 15 to 20 years,” said Clark Ealy, Superintendent of CSISD, adding it might be the highest growth rate ever in a two-year span.
As of Sept. 16, College Station schools serve 12,337 students on the district’s 15 campuses. This year, College Hills, Rock Prairie and Greens Prairie Elementary Schools have more than 700 students each.
Oakwood Intermediate and A&M Consolidated Middle School both have over 900 students, and both high schools have more than 1,600 students each.
Spring Creek Elementary will open next fall and be the district’s ninth elementary school. Administrators are expecting to open a tenth elementary, third intermediate and third middle school in the next decade.
