EL PASO – Rio Vista Behavioral Health hospital opens its 58,000-sf expansion next month. The new space, which cost $22.6 million, will add 80 beds to the facility.

Rio Vista CEO Maria Alvarez said the hospital turns away about 150 patients per month because of a lack of bed space. The facility is usually 90 to 95 percent full.

The hospital’s services include inpatient admission for adults and adolescents and the STAR Program for military, veterans, and first responders.

The new facility will include a two-story addition with 40 beds and separate wings for adults and adolescents. The expansion also includes a one-story, 14,000-sf outpatient services building.

Alvarez said Rio Vista has gone from about 100 employees in 2020 to 250 today, and expects the expansion to bring in about 50 more jobs.

The behavioral hospital, which opened in 2019 on Northwestern Dr. near West Towne Marketplace, is owned by Tennessee-based Acadia Healthcare.
