JEFFERSON COUNTY - Natgasoline will build a $1 billion-plus methanol plant at 5474 SH 347 — a 514-acre area located within Beaumont’s extraterritorial jurisdiction.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued Natgasoline a final greenhouse gas Prevention of Significant Deterioration construction permit to build the new natural gas-to-gasoline facility. The project also received a $2.1 million Texas Enterprise Fund grant.

The plant is expected to have a capacity of 5,000 metric tons per day, or 1.75 million metric tons per year, making it the largest facility of its kind in the United States. It is expected to bring 3,000 construction jobs and 240 permanent jobs to Jefferson County.

“The County is very proud of this facility. It will add many new full-time employees with benefits, will be a permanent operating plant that will be in existence for years to reduce dependence on imported oil and provide another source of gasoline,” said Fred Jackson, assistant to Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick.

As incentive to build locally, Jefferson County granted the company a ten-year, 100 percent tax abatement. Similar abatements were granted by the City of Beaumont, Port of Beaumont, Beaumont Independent School District and the Sabine-Neches Navigation District.
