SAN ANTONIO – Alamo City could grow by 80,000 households by 2026, according to a report published by housing market researcher Zonda.

The figure is bolstered by strong domestic migration to the area, with between 18,000 and 19,000 new city residents expected per year over the next four years.

According to Realtor.com data, almost 40 percent of the city’s newcomers comes from Austin, Houston, Dallas, and Corpus Christi.

Housing starts have surged since first quarter 2021 to meet demand. Zonda reports there were 5,696 housing starts in first quarter 2022, a 27 percent year-over-year increase. Most of the new homes are being built on San Antonio’s west side.
