Cool! Friedrich A/C building to become apartments

SAN ANTONIO – Provident Realty has acquired the Friedrich Air Conditioning building at 1617 E. Commerce St. Part of the property will be transformed into a 347-unit apartment complex. 

The project had been pushed back several times over the past three years due to funding.

Friedrich Lofts will have 625-sf efficiency units and one- and two-bedroom layouts with up to 1,000 sf. Half of the units will be allocated for families making less than 60 percent of the area’s median income. 

Cleanup and demolition begins later this year. Construction begins in early 2023. 

Dallas-based Architecture Demarest designed the apartments.
