Brownsville building permits hit $163M FY 2014
BROWNSVILLE – The value of fiscal year 2014 building permits, ending in September, was $162.7 million compared to $155.6 million in 2013, according to Evaristo Gamez, Director of the Brownsville Building Permitting Department.
The value of new residential construction permits for fiscal year 2014 was more than $54 million. For new commercial construction, it was almost $76 million.
Permits for September 2014 totaled $16 million, double the number for September 2013. August 2014 was a good month as well, with $29 million in permit valuation compared to $21 million in August 2013.
Permit valuation is a based on a number of factors, including estimated construction cost, square footage and type of project.
