​​​HOUSTON – Locally based Midway, the developer behind CityCentre, is transforming a 150-acre Fifth Ward site into a $2.5 billion mixed-use shopping des​tination.

The project, dubbed East River, will have over one million sf of construction, including apartments, medical centers, entertainment buildings, retail sh​ops, restaurants, and offices.

Work starts on the first 26-acre portion within the next few months. It will include a five-story apartment complex named the Laura. Completion of phase one is set for 2023.

East River will be developed in four or five phases over 15 to 20 years.
