Texas Real Estate Research Center turns 50
COLLEGE STATION – The Texas Real Estate Research Center turns 50 today. On May 18, 1971, Gov. Preston Smith signed Senate Bill 338, creating the Center and placing it at Texas A&M University.
“The Center has exceeded the dreams of its founders," said Center Executive Director Gary Maler. “More than 2,300 technical reports, articles, while papers, videos, books, and other materials help Texans make the best real estate decisions."
Known for its applied research, the Center is a valuable source of information and data. Fees paid by Texas real estate license holders are the primary source of funding. A small staff of fewer than 25 conducts research under a broad legislative mandate to “conduct studies in all areas related directly or indirectly to Texas real estate."
“What began in 1971 as a center focused on research about urban and rural real estate markets has evolved quite naturally into a Texas powerhouse of economic thought leadership recognized around the Lone Star State for its high-quality research," said Dr. Patrick M. Barkey, president of the Association for University Business and Economic Research.
“The state has needed your regional forecasts, economic outlook reports, and housing market analysis even more during this challenging year of collapsing oil prices, pandemic-related recession, and Winter Storm Uri."
