​​WASHINGTON – The foreclosure moratorium for federally backed mortgages has been extended to June 30, 2021. 

The moratorium was set to expire March 31 before it was extended. 

The enrollment window to request a mortgage payment forbearance was also extended​ until June 30. This will allow borrowers to defer mortgage payments for an additional six months. 

There are 11 million federal government-backed mortgages nationwide. Around 2.7 million homeowners are enrolled in COVID-19 forbearance plans.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s federal moratorium on evictions for not paying rent is set to expire March 31.
