SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Performing Arts Center has broken ground at the old Coca-Cola warehouse downtown, representing the first phase of the performing arts campus. Construction is expected to last about 18 months, and the center should open by fall 2016.

The former warehouse will be repurposed to include a 300 seat theater, a black box theater, seven ballet studios, rehearsal space and a new lobby.

The new the performing arts campus, which includes the City Auditorium, is designed to be a joint-use facility for the city’s four major performing arts organizations: the San Angelo Symphony, San Angelo Civic Ballet, Angelo Civic Theatre and San Angelo Cultural Affairs Council.

City Auditorium will commence construction in mid-2015 with an opening also planned for the fall 2016.

Construction on the performing arts campus is estimated to total $7 million to $8 million.
