WACO - It’s been a four-year intermission, but the curtain rises again for the historic 17,000-sf Waco Hippodrome theater.

The reopening, one of several in the theater’s 100-year history, starts the latest life for the downtown Waco venue, which will offer first-run movies, a restaurant and event food service, live music, theater, dance and more for Waco audiences.

The expanded uses follow a nearly two-year, $2.6 million renovation by Waco developers Shane and Cody Turner, who purchased the facility two years ago from the nonprofit Waco Performing Arts Company (WPAC).

The WPAC ran the Hippodrome as a performing arts venue for more than 20 years, but financial problems finally forced the theater’s closure in 2010.
