LUMBERTON, HARDIN COUNTY - A 32-unit gated apartment complex, The Willows, will open by next summer. The Willows will be located on Gold Star Rd.

Jack Brumley, an industrial contractor from Beaumont, said he and his wife Angie are investing $1.4 million to build the project located north of the Mitchell Rd. exit but south of the US 96 split with 69.

Each unit will be 945 sf, have two bedrooms and one bathroom and come equipped with laundry machines.

Lumberton accounts for about one-fifth of Hardin County's population and one-fourth of the county's rental housing unit stock, according to most recent census estimates. Of the 1,000 rental units in Lumberton, 15 percent were vacant in 2010.

Brumley said he hopes to tap into ongoing residential and commercial growth in Lumberton with a housing location removed from the daily traffic in town.
