AUSTIN – The city is developing a new pedestrian bridge over Lady Bird Lake at Longhorn Dam.
The $12.6 million project will replace the current passageway over the dam, as its narrow sidewalks and low handrail barely allow people to pass each other.
The "wishbone"-style bridge will connect three points of the Ann and Roy Butler Hike and Bike Trail.
The bridge's three legs will form a triangular plaza space over the water. This space will include benches, planters, and other amenities.
Construction of the bridge will take five years. In the meantime, the city will widen the current sidewalk and install higher handrails and a taller curb.
