HOUSTON – The Houston Astros are moving forward with the first phase of a $25 million renovation project that will add new social areas to Minute Maid Park.
City building permits have allowed the Astros to begin work on a $2 million remodel to make way for what one permit calls the "Gotham Club" within the stadium.
A separate permit issued to Cincinnati-based MSA Design authorizes a $1 million partial interior remodel.
Plans call for the removal of an unspecified number of seats to make way for a new club area for season ticket holders and a staircase with dining and bar areas in right field.
While the park will have fewer seats after the renovations are complete, the increased standing room space will ensure the stadium's capacity is not affected.
