McKINNEY – The city has released its annual population estimate, showing a 4.5 percent increase in population since January 2018.
The population has increased nearly 327 percent during the last 20 years, from 44,000 in 1999 to 187,802 in 2019, according to city estimates.
In 2018, McKinney was named one of the fastest-growing cities in the country according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates and has been ranked for several years.
In addition, new construction values in the city grew 2 percent in 2018 to $1.24 billion; new commercial growth was up 24 percent.
By 2040, McKinney’s population is expected to grow by another 100,000 residents to roughly 284,000, according to city estimates.
