DALLAS – After seven consecutive years of increasing sales, North Texas homebuilders saw a slowdown in the market in the second half of 2018 as consumers adjusted to higher mortgage costs and huge home price increases.

With many builders shifting construction to hold new home price costs down, sales of more moderately priced new houses remain strong in North Texas while inventories of expensive houses have grown in some markets.

DFW Home building stats as of the third quarter of 2018, shown through 4 charts: DFW new home starts and sales; unsold finished new homes in North Texas; median price of new homes in DFW; and Top U.S. Homebuilding markets.
