​​A rendering of the new animal shelter under construction in harris county.​HOUSTON – Harris County will begin construction on its new $24 million animal shelter to increase the county’s ability to ​take in and house dogs and cats.

The 48,000-sf facility willl be on the same property as the existing shelter at 612 Canino Rd.​ It will have room for 315 dogs and 210 cats.

The shelter will include a medical clinic, a walking trail, an isolation care unit, and four dog parks. 

Construction is expected to wrap up by the ​​​​end of 2019.
