​​​​​Texas 6 signCOLLEGE STATION-BRYAN – A major expansion of SH 6 is included in the Texas Transportation Commission's 2019 Unified Transportation Plan.

The ten-year plan includes two projects totaling $216 million.

The projects will widen the thoroughfare to six lanes, with other improvements including new interchange designs, collector and distributor roads,​ and bicycle/pedestrian accommodations.

The first $174 million project would expand the highway from SH 21 to Texas Ave. S. and is anticipated to begin in September 2021.

The second phase would continue the improvements south to SH 40. That project is estimated to cost $42 million and will begin in September 2024.
