Rendering of the solar farm.FORT BEND COUNTY – Fort Bend Solar LLC, a subsidiary of Australia-based Lendlease, will build a 200-megawatt solar farm west of Houston.

The facility will contain about 700,000 solar panels measuring roughly three ft by six ft and mounted on a single-axis tracker system, which will allow them to slowly move from east to west throughout the day for maximum sunlight absorption.

The $170 million project will be on US 90 Alternate near Tavener Rd. Construction is expected to start in early 2019, and the facility should be operational in 2020.

The facility is expected to power the equivalent of about 40,000 homes.
