DALLAS – North Texas is the country’s undisputed king when it comes to homebuilding.

With more than 36,000 home starts in the 12 months ending second quarter 2018, DFW far surpasses other big American housing markets for total production, according to a new report by housing analyst Metrostudy Inc.

Metroplex builders are starting about 40 percent more homes than in the Atlanta and Phoenix metro areas and almost 70 percent more than in Denver.

Area home starts rose 12.7 percent annually according to the report.

North Texas has been a leading U.S. housing market since the end of the Great Recession.

While DFW home starts are now at the highest point in a decade, total housing production still lags starts before the economic downtown. In 2005 and 2006, local builders were starting close to 50,000 houses a year.

Top homebuilding markets, according to Metrostudy.
