MONTGOMERY COUNTY – Despite large numbers of overburdened renters—those who spend more than 30 percent of their income toward rent—there are not very many local low-income housing options.
In Montgomery County, which had a population of 570,934 as of July 2017, there are 23 affordable apartment buildings and 2,125 low-income apartment units, and 605 rent-assisted units.
The percentage of renters versus homeowners is 28.19 percent.
The area’s median family income is $68,383 and median rent is $1,030. Across the county, 49.01 percent of renters are considered overburdened.
