The Texas Research and Technology Foundation’s (TRTF) redevelopment of the Merchants Ice and Storage complex along East Houston St. and Cherry St. will begin early August 2018.

The San Antonio-based research organization plans to eventually move its headquarters to the site.

The campus, which encompasses about 120,000 sf, will include offices, labs, at least two innovation centers, and a boutique hotel within one of the restored buildings.

The Alamo City Music Hall, which operates on the Merchant Ice campus, will be converted into a 500- to 700-seat auditorium.

The design team for the project includes Lake Flato Architects and Austin-based DWG.
