GREATER HOUSTON – Out of the 40 apartment projects currently under construction around Houston, 23 are slated for the suburbs while 17 are in-town destinations, according to Bruce McClenny, president of Houston-based ApartmentData.com.
There are 4,500 units under construction in core markets such as Montrose, Midtown, the Medical Center, and the Heights.
In suburban markets such as Tomball, Kingwood, Katy, and Pasadena, 5,500 units are under construction.
More mid-rise projects with structured garages that have units wrapped around them have popped up in the suburbs, mainly due to land costs that make garden-style projects with surface parking harder to construct.
