LAREDO – Natural gas producers in the Permian Basin will soon have another market and delivery point: Monterrey, Mexico.
Construction on Howard Energy Partners’ 190-mile Nueva Era Pipeline, which links natural gas production sites near Laredo to Monterrey, is complete.
The San Antonio-based midstream company is developing what it calls the Monterrey energy corridor to move natural gas from the Eagle Ford Shale and Permian Basin to customers in Mexico.
Based on current projections, the cross-border pipeline is expected to be approved by Mexican regulators and placed into commercial service by the end of June 2018.
The pipeline is coming into service as natural gas production has increased dramatically in the Permian Basin and Mexico is not able to produce enough to meet its growing domestic demand.
