PORT ARTHUR – Bayport Polymers LLC has broken ground on a new $1.7 billion ethane steam cracker near Beaumont, Texas.
The company is a joint venture of Total S.A. and Novealis Holdings LLC—another JV between Borealis AG and NOVA Chemicals Inc.
Bay-Pol is building the 1 million ton per year ethane cracker alongside Total’s Port Arthur Refinery and the Total-BASF steam cracker.
The company expects approximately 1,500 jobs to be created during engineering and construction.
Once the facility starts up in 2020, it should support roughly 60 full-time jobs.
