DFW construction down in May
DALLAS – North Texas building activity dropped in May, according to Dodge Data & Analytics.
New nonresidential construction projects fell by 73 percent from a year ago. Residential building dropped 10 percent.
Last month a total of $1.5 billion in new construction projects were recorded in DFW compared with $2.8 million in May 2017.
So far this year, local nonresidential construction activity is down by more than a third. Residential building is down 4 percent.
These declines come after several years of record building totals. In 2017, DFW was second only to New York City for total building activity.
Nationwide, total new construction starts were down 13 percent in April, according to Dodge. Nonresidential building fell 12 percent, and residential construction was down 9 percent.
