​​DALLAS – ​North Texas building activity dropped in May, according to Dodge Data & Analytics. 

New nonresidential construction projects fell by 73 percent from a year ago. Residential building dropped 10 percent. 

Last month a total of $1.5 billion in new construction projects ​were recorded in DFW compared with $2.8 million in May 2017.

So far t​his year, local nonresidential construction activity​​​ is down by more than a third. Residential building is down 4 percent. 

These declines come after several years of record building totals. In 2017, DFW was second only to New York City for total building activity. 

​​Nationwide, total new construction starts were down 13 percent in April, according to Dodge. Nonresidential building fell 12 percent, and residential​ construction was down 9 percent.
