DALLAS – More than 500,000 Texas homes are at risk of damage from storm surges in the event of a category 5 storm, according to a CoreLogic study.

Assuming the worst possible damage, rebuilding all the flood-prone homes in Texas would cost more than $103 billion, said the study.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecasts a 75 percent chance that the 2018 hurricane season would be of average or above average intensity.

The majority of the endangered properties are clustered in the Houston and Beaumont areas, home to nearly seven million people.
