The centerpiece of that $57 million portion of the project is San Pedro Creek Culture Park.

To date, more than $158.9 million in Bexar County funding has been authorized toward redeveloping San Pedro Creek.

The 2.2-mile project will span from a tunnel inlet near the intersection of I-35 and I-10 southward to East Cevallos St.

The transformation project will restore some of the waterway’s original look and feel, and it is expected to draw more activity back to its banks.

River authority officials said the economic impact from the creek makeover is projected to reach $1.5 billion.

Work has begun on the second leg of Phase I, which will improve the creek from Houston St. to Nueva St.

The completed project is expected to draw more private investment to the area.
