LUBBOCK – The citizens of Lubbock have voted to have the Lubbock Municipal Auditorium and Coliseum demolished.
The city argued the structures at 2720 Drive of Champions had outlived their useful life, and are not worth the roughly $600,000 annual cost of maintenance and upkeep.
The structures built in the 1950s have hosted concerts, rodeos, basketball games, Broadway musicals, hockey games and many other events.
“The bottom line is this was a business decision for the city—knowing what’s getting built or is already to replace a lot of the market ability of those two structures.” said Councilman Jeff Griffith.
