WACO – The City Council has approved the purchase of the 25th St. Theatre, with plans to relocate a local fire station.
The 73-year-old building at 1006 N. 25th St. would become the new home of Waco Fire Station No. 6.
The property is just under two acres and the purchase is not to exceed $88,000, according to the City Council meeting on May 1, 2018.
Fire Chief Bobby Tatum said he would like to maintain the facade and the landmark sign on 25th St. to incorporate into the fire station’s design.
“The city is ruthlessly committed in honoring the legacy of the building . . . and making sure that the history is preserved through the construction of the new facility,” said Councilman Dillon Meek.
The existing Station No. 6 on Bosque Blvd. is Waco’s smallest station but one of its busiest, responding to more than 60 percent of the city’s structure fires.
