Help wanted: Austin’s tighter than average job market

​​AUSTIN – It’s no secret the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Area’s job market is booming.

However, with a near record-low unemployment rate, employers are having a difficult time finding the necessary skills in the local workforce to fill the thousands of job openings.

Employers in two of the region’s largest industries face tighter than average talent pools: healthcare having 1.8 candidates per job opening, compared to the national average of 5, and the tech sector having 5.7 candidates per job opening, compared to the national average of 6.4.​
