SAN ANTONIO – Last month, 2,770 homes were sold in the area, a 6.2 percent increase from March 2017, according to data from the San Antonio Board of Realtors (SABOR).

The Alamo City’s growing economy and population have driven up sales nearly every month for the past seven years.

The median price of a local home was $219,600 in March, an 8.3 percent increase from $202,800 a year earlier. According to SABOR, a tight supply of homes on the market and a shortage of construction workers, especially in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, have been driving up home prices for the past few years.

Local inventory was at 3.3 months in March, up slightly from December’s record low of 3.1 months. The Real Estate Center considers a six- to 6.5-month supply a balanced market.

So far this year, 6,542 homes have been sold in the local metro area, which is 6.1 percent higher than at the same time last year. The local housing market set a record last year with 30,715 homes sold, up 3.8 percent from 2016.
