MIDLAND – According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the city is tied for the fifth-lowest jobless rate in the nation in January.
The city’s 2.4 percent unemployment rate tied the area with Elkhart-Goshen, IL.
Amarillo (2.8 percent) is the only other Texas city among the top 25 MSAs with the lowest unemployment rates in the country.
The rest of the top five are:
Ames, Iowa, 1.8 percent;
Honolulu, Hawaii, 2 percent;
Kahului-Wailuku-Lahaina, Hawaii, 2.1 percent; and
Madison, WI, 2.4 percent.
Wisconsin had the most cities with jobless rates in the top 25. Hawaii posted the lowest unemployment rate in January at 2.1 percent. Texas’ was 4.2 percent.
